Come to Morocco with Me?

Hi everyone,

Yes it’s been a while - in 2024 I’ve basically stopped talking on the internet to focus on the main quests of:

• Finish the children’s novel and send it out to agents (DONE!)

• Pay mortgage (ongoing)

• Fix up my house (getting there)

But, after living almost entirely offline I’m coming back to the internet with an offer - a hunt for teammates to come on a hiking trip/expedition to Morocco. Fancy coming along with me?

Toubkal Circuit - 10 Days - June 2024

I am writing the guidebook to the Toubkal area for Cicerone and I need to go back this summer to complete the Toubkal Circuit trek, “one of Africa's finest multi-day treks” (more info about the precise route here). Obviously, things are more fun as a group and I’m looking for people to join me on the hike.

Lake Infi on the Toubkal Circuit

Quick Details:

• 10 days

• Starting 1st June or end of May

• 5 days trekking from Imlil to Toubkal Base Camp (this is the circuit)

• 3-4 days based at Neltner Hut to climb Toubkal, Ouanoukrim and surrounding peaks

• Flying into and out of Marrakesh

• Local guide + mules + food, staying in villages or camping

• We’ll each pay our own way

• Ideally a group of 6 people

Costs look like ~400EUR each for trekking and transfer, add to that flights and a possible overnight stay in Marrakesh depending on timings. Please take these as a ball-park figures because the number of people and exact dates could change. We have to have a guide in the Toubkal area by law (since 2019).

You’d also need to be happy having the back of your head maybe appear in a guidebook! The main purpose of this trip for me is research and photography for the book, so we’ll be going as a group of friends/equals. It’ll be 5-7hrs of hiking each day and we’ll slowly build up to altitude (Toubkal summit is over 4000m, Neltner hut is at 3000m). The Toubkal Circuit is only 60km in total but goes over a series of high passes.

If you are at all interested or have questions, please get in touch! I’m trying to put the team together asap so that we can secure our place in the refuge and flights etc before costs go up.

There is a small amount of wiggle room in dates (could push into July but not further than that) so do say if you’re keen but can’t quite do the dates.
